Everyone’s a suspect in Folly

Murder mystery set just miles from historic Charleston showcases many characters of the small island of Folly Beach

Bloomington, IN (September 23, 2008): In Folly, author Bill Noel introduces us to the sleepy island of Folly Beach, South Carolina, it’s baby-boomer inhabitants -- many of them now suspects in the murder of a local developer -- and a baby-boomer tourist from Kentucky, Chris Landrum.

This fast-moving and fun murder-mystery read doesn’t have a bunch of blood and gore, sex or profanity, but it is written from the perspective of a baby boomer like Landrum, who witnessed the event but continues to also enjoy the bohemian lifestyle and eccentric residents that exist within the shadow of historic Charleston. But he also comes to learn that his life could be in danger for knowing too much.

The author’s knowledge of photography is also a very important part of Folly. Landrum spends much of his time getting to know residents of the community though his walks around the island taking photographs of different, eye-catching spots. During that time he bonds with both the local newspaper reporter, Tammy Rogers, as well as Charles -- not Charlie -- Fowler, who many regard as a possible suspect.

But as the list of suspects grows throughout Folly, from the grieving widow and her lover to a hot-tempered anti-development leader in Folly, Landrum does what the police were unable to do -- uncover a murder plot based on greed, deception, small town politics and big money.

Written in light, easy-to-read chapters, it’s a novel to be taken along for an airplane ride across the country or to read at a beach, much like Folly Beach with the sand, the sun and the ocean breezes.
