PRLog -- Dr. Sheila Petty is the dean of fine arts and a professor of media studies at the University of Regina. Dr. Petty has been in this capacity since 2004 and is responsible for overseeing five departments including their respective theatre, music, fine arts and academic programs, supervising the facility, assuring safety standards and providing student and faculty support. Dr. Petty is also an adjunct scientist at TRLabs. She has written extensively on issues of cultural representation and nation African diasporic cinema and new media. Dr. Petty is well known for her expertise in film and television and has acted as a curator for galleries across Canada. She is an accomplished author with a forthcoming book on African film and a forthcoming monograph on the TV series, Law and Order. Her current research focuses on interdisciplinary investigations of new media narrative strategies. In particular, she is exploring the intersection of film-based montage theory and computer-based aesthetics. Dr. Petty is the leader of an interdisciplinary research group and new media studio laboratory encompassing computer science, engineering and fine arts. She is the recipient of the 2001 University of Regina Alumni Association Award for Excellence in Research and a University of Regina scholar. Dr. Petty is active within the community and supports several organizations that benefit programs for fine arts. In her spare time, she enjoys travel, gardening and reading.
