The big businesses are getting the help they need.  Barclays PLC, the third-largest British bank, reached an agreement with Lehman Brothers as they unloaded portions of their businesses on Wall Street.  Bank of America bought Merrill Lynch in a $50 billion deal creating a bank offering everything from fixed-income trading to credit card lending.  And the government stepped in to rescue AIG Insurance, one of the world's largest insurers, with a 2-year, $85 billion emergency loan.
