Sept. 16, 2008 - PRLog -- SMYRNA, GEORGIA--Vinings Gallery is pleased to announce a very special one-man show with talented young artist Michael Flohr on October 24 and 25, 2008. This exclusive event marks the sixth visit to Atlanta for the critically acclaimed artist. Flohr's numerous collectors and those new to his colorful, evocative work will enjoy meeting him, watching him paint and seeing several original works created just for this show.

Michael Flohr grew up in a rural area outside San Diego, California where, at a young age, it was discovered that he suffered from dyslexia. As a result, his parents arranged tutoring consisting of math, reading, and art classes--where he excelled. Flohr went on to pursue a degree at the San Francisco Academy of Art College.

After graduation, Flohr traveled extensively in Europe. In Rome, a candlelit exhibition of Monet’s work left a lasting impression. He also studied the work of Manet, Pisarro, Degas and Toulouse-Lautrec. These experiences synthesized into his unique artistic style working in oil paints--often described as a combination of avant-garde, abstract expressionism and impressionism.

The artist, who also favors pure pigment straight from the tube, admits to a  "love of the vibrant color and the durability and richness that oil paint brings to the canvas. I also believe that most people with an appreciation for art respect an artist’s use of this classic medium.” Recognized into New York’s Society of Illustrators, Flohr joins the ranks of legendary predecessors such as Norman Rockwell, Maxfield Parrish and N.C. Wyeth.

Flohr can often be seen around town at home and on his travels in nightclubs, bars and cafes, sketchbook in hand, capturing the shifting colors and dynamics of people as they mingle and interact. “I do not work with models. I prefer to sketch ‘in the moment’ as a scene unfolds…” he relates. Depicting these ordinary moments in extraordinary ways, Flohr’s work displays an artistic mastery of color, perspective, technique and vision.

Since his debut on the art scene Flohr has been riding an escalating wave of popularity with the public and growing esteem from the international art community. With each new painting, Flohr adds to that momentum. "This is a rare art event with a truly special artist and one that enthusiasts and collectors do not want to miss!" says Gary Handler, co-owner of Vinings Gallery. "

The Vinings Gallery events kick off a month-long exhibition and sale of Flohr's work, which will run through November 22, 2008. While in Atlanta, Flohr will also make a special appearance and presentation of his piece "Fontaine's" to the owners of that restaurant in Virginia-Highland.

High Resolution images of Michael Flohr's recent works--particularly his pieces "Fontaine's" and "Night at The Fox" are available to accompany publication.
