Sept. 2, 2008 - PRLog -- According to an article in The Associated Press bacterial contamination has been found in well water at a northeast Oklahoma restaurant linked to an E. coli outbreak that killed a 26 year old man and sickened many others. Skylar McElhaney, a spokesperson for the Department of Environmental Quality stated that more tests would be needed in order to see if the bacteria found in the well water includes the strain of E. coli implicated in the outbreak.

The outbreak connected to the northeast Oklahoma restaurant is said to have sickened 116 people, 50 of those required hospitalization, officials said. Chad Ingle, 26 died Sunday, one week after eating at the restaurant. McElhaney said that samples were tested from the restaurant property and that there is no evidence that residents' water is contaminated.

The cause of the contamination is unknown. Sewer leaks, runoff from agricultural waste and improper well maintenance and disinfection are common causes of bacterial contamination.

Vital Oxide proves effective at eliminating E.coli bacteria. It can be used on pre-cleaned hard non-porous surfaces such as tile, table tops, and counter tops.
