By: Tom Cruse Probably the most significant political event in recent US political history, not just because Obama is the first black man to secure the nomination of a major political party, but because he is widely regarded as the best political orator of the past 40 years. It appears his promises of change and renewal have struck a chord with many American voters. A measure of the sense of hope Obama arises can be measured by the fact that 75,000 of the spectators who crowded into a football stadium in Denver to watch the finale to the convention, around 15,000 were members of the press. Obama did not disappoint his Democrat faithful though the address failed to reach the rhetorical heights of a speech he gave during the heat of the primary season earlier this year in which he disavowed, but did not disown, the racist rhetoric of his pastor, Jeremiah Wright. Nonetheless it appears to have got the faithful motivated and they have flocked to the UNOFFICIAL Election website to register their unswerving approval. Obama is unquestionably a masterful performer and has reinforced his status as a once-in-a-generation politician. A Presidential candidate that inspires audiences with his eloquence and intelligence, and elevates the political discourse in a way few other recent US politicians have done. The UNOFFICIAL Election Poll website allows browsers to register their voting intentions. Prior to his inauguration speech Barack Obama and John McCain were level pegging. Sine his nomination as the Democratic Party's presidential candidate at the National Convention his supporters have added 21.74%% points to his poll rating.
