This modern theming approach can also include tiled or hand-painted murals as a backdrop for the pool setting.

“It’s a totally new swimming pool look but one that is providing a modern lifestyle and a new energy for people wanting something that is different from the traditional” Remonda Martinez said.

She said a renovation can make a dramatic impact. New finishes are helping to give a sparkling new look to an old swimming pool.  These finishes include glass beads set in concrete to give a glass-lined look; quartz interior and smooth coloured Micropebble; the accent on sandstone or terracotta for copings and paving, rather than the old-style pavers, bricks or pebblecrete.

Waterfalls and pool heating are also popular features in modern pool renovations.
