May 26, 2008 - PRLog -- Traditionally airport Meet & Greets involved a friendly welcome, possibly some explanation of documentation and the directing of passengers towards their various transport providers and services.  Nowadays however, travellers are more demanding, have higher expectations of travel companies and are choosing holidays that are either more ‘off-the-beaten-track, often quite complex itineraries, and tailored to suit individual interests, rather than purchasing the more tried-and-tested or ‘off-the-shelf’ holiday options.  

Thompsons Meet & Greet Services have evolved to deal with the changing trends in tourism.  Time and again, our staff on the ground in our Client Services Division have proven their mettle, when they are called on to assist our clients in tricky situations, be it lost passports, luggage and other items of importance, as well as flight 'issues', and they play a vitally important role in creating an atmosphere of calm and ease, directing travellers to foreign exchange bureaus, or cellular rental companies, as well as helping our passengers through minor to serious emergency situations.

With a permanent team of Client Service Officers located in all major centres in Southern Africa, our staff is easily recognizable, we carry branded sign boards, and our staff is available 24 hours a day – even visiting our clients in hospital should they fall ill on their journey.  Our Client Service Department has also been paramount in providing comfort and support to travelling companions of indisposed, sick or injured passengers – as travellers we seldom even contemplate that death or serious injury could occur whilst on holiday, but as a company, in operation for the past 30 years, Thompsons Africa have certainly faced these unforeseen challenges.

The Client Services Division therefore operates on 'two levels' so to speak, and is an important division within the company, not only do they meet and assist our passengers on arrival, but their 'secondary' role, which is equally as important, are the unforseen hiccups that occur whilst passengers are on holiday.

Our Client Services Division are well known in the industry for their assistance to our passengers ‘above and beyond the call of duty’, and this is no idle boast – most recently (9th May 2008), one of our Meet & Greet staff members based at Cape Town International Airport, assisted a bewildered and entirely lost passenger who could not speak a word of English.  Luckily Chantel speaks French, and was able to communicate with the passenger, who literally had been given an airport ticket and a business card for his arrival in South Africa.  Chantel made the necessary enquiries after seating the passenger with a bottle of water, and ascertained that the passenger was to travel further to Durban to attend the NEPAD Conference.  She made enquiries as to which hotel he would be staying at and basically managed to set the passenger on his intended and correct course, re-assured and armed with an itinerary and contact…. and this was not even a Thompsons passenger!  As it turns out Chantel assisted the Secretary General of the Department of Craft, Industry and Tourism of Mali!

Client Service Officers hand over the passengers documentation, provide assistance when required, and in most instances escort passengers to their hired cars or waiting transfer.

GOLD VIP MEET & GREET
Conducted on a private basis.
Clients are met, assisted with their luggage,  and escorted to either a restaurant or coffee shop within the airport terminal and handed their documentation whilst enjoying a complimentary juice or hot beverage.
If necessary, passengers will then be escorted and assisted with banking, foreign exchange, cellular rental and any other retail service within the terminal building and finally, escorted to their onward transportation.
Available In: Johannesburg, Cape Town, Durban and Port Elizabeth Airports.

PLATINUM VVIP MEET & GREET  
This is the ultimate service for ‘ease of arrival’ into South Africa.
Passengers will be met on arrival at the aircraft by our airport ‘security-approved’ sub-contractors and attended to from the moment they touch South African soil.
This meet is also conducted on a totally private basis.
Once in the airport terminal clients will be met by our staff and assisted with their luggage, escorted to a restaurant or coffee shop within the airport terminal, and handed their documentation whilst enjoying a complimentary juice or hot beverage.
If necessary, passengers will then be escorted and assisted with banking, foreign exchange, cellular rental and any other retail service within the terminal building and finally, escorted to their onward transportation.
