The scholarship provides full tuition and fees and most living expenses for four years of medical school, allowing students to choose a medical specialty without fear of debt after graduation. With the most recent gift of $8 million, the family’s cumulative financial support to the medical school comes to around $22 million, since the 1960’s. “The Brody family’s commitment to higher education, especially to the Brody School of Medicine at East Carolina, is legendary in the state of North Carolina,” said Graham H. The program prefers residents of North Carolina and provides recipients with financial assistance while they complete their degrees at ECU. If a student maintains acceptable academic progress, the funds are renewable for up to four years. The scholarship program was created to recruit medical students with outstanding academic records and who plan to practice medicine in eastern North Carolina after completing their residency training.
