Follow on Google News | Now You Can Talk With Computers And Not Just To ThemVoxIQ has overcome a major hurdle that has prevented intelligent and interactive conversation between a person and a computer. The invention drastically reduces the work that a speech recognition engine has to do, so making it work better.
By: VoxIQ Ltd Without the aid of VoxIQ, all the words to be used in an application must be entered into the speech recognition engine beforehand. The speech recogniser then tries to match a speaker's utterances to its vocabulary of phrases, to check that what is being said is in a context that fits with the current stage of the conversation. As the number of words increases to support more complex applications, the speech recognition efficiency drops off. This explains why automated speech recognition applications have required simplicity, until now. Although the VoxIQ invention is a complex combination of integrated technologies, the concept is very simple. VoxIQ works around a business or other process and needs only the default keywords to be in the speech recogniser to kick-start the process. It then tracks each step in the process and provides only the keywords to be recognised in the next step. As only a few words need to be recognised at any stage, the recogniser efficiency is very much improved. All utterances are digitally recorded and any information supplied that is relevant to other steps in the process is captured by a second recogniser. This facility vastly improves the efficiency of both the automated version and the eavesdropping version. # # # VoxIQ Ltd was founded to commercialise an invention that was developed to demonstrator stage in a defence environment within BAE Systems plc. This company patented the enabling technology in fourteen countries including the USA, China and seven countries in Europe. VoxIQ Ltd holds a world wide exclusive and perpetual licence to the technology, and has established a business to business model designed to help partners build and sell VoxIQ applications under licence.
