Jan. 29, 2008 - PRLog -- WASHINGTON (HammerTap) – eBay Inc. announced changes in both buyer and seller feedback rating policies, according to HammerTap executive Brian Clark. The changes come immediately following John Donahoe succeeding Meg Whitman as chief executive, which took place last week.

Plans were announced during the annual eCommerce Forum in Washington D.C. on Tuesday and the changes in policy will become effective sometime in May.

It was announced that retaliatory feedback is becoming an issue with eBay sellers, which is turning buyers off. Starting in May, sellers will no longer be allowed to leave neutral or negative feedback to buyers.

However, to compensate for the sellers’ lack of being able to leave feedback, there will soon be ways for sellers to get rid of negative feedback from buyers. Negative and neutral feedback and comments from buyers who become suspended will retroactively be removed from a seller’s profile.

Complete details of feedback policy changes are available in the HammerTap forum at http://www.hammertapresource.com/forum/index.php?topic=74.0.

In addition, Detailed Seller Ratings (DSRs) will soon be used as criteria for default search results. As buyers search for products on eBay.com, sellers with the highest DSR ratings will be listed higher in search results. Sellers with lower DSR  ratings will be listed lower in search results, helping to decrease fraudulent sellers from thriving on eBay.

Other announcements were made, including changes in insertion and final-value fees and PowerSeller status criteria.

“Most of the changes will be positive to both buyers and sellers,” says Clark, CTO of HammerTap who attended the conference when the announcements were made. “It looks like Donahoe is focused on making eBay a safer marketplace for both buyers and sellers.”
