Jackass 2.5 Marks the First Major Movie Release Over the Internet

Dec. 14, 2007 - PRLog -- Chicago, IL - Viacom and Blockbuster Inc. have teamed up to bring Internet viewers "Jackass 2.5," which will be released on the Internet and will available to view for free from December 19 - December 31.

Blockbuster Inc. will present Paramount's "Jackass 2.5" free of charge at on its website at blockbuster.jackassworld.com. The DVD version will be available for purchase December 26, 2007 on store shelves and can be downloaded for a fee on Apple's iTunes Store as well.

"It's the first broadband movie ever distributed by a major studio," stated Thomas Lesinski, president of Paramount Pictures Digital Entertainment.

Using Broadband to Generate Buzz

News of the internet release first broke on September 5, 2007 on Sirius Satellite's The Howard Stern Show - one month after the popular alt-rock band Radiohead created a massive buzz on the Internet by releasing their latest album, In Rainbows on the Internet with a choose your own price model.

Considering this release mostly consists of outtakes from the previous film Jackass Number Two, the financial risks of airing the movie for free over the Internet are greatly minimized and will significantly reduce advertising costs associated with the film release as it will likely receive a large amount of essentially free promotion on Internet blogs and through media reporting.

Blockbuster Inc. will also greatly benefit by driving thousands of site registrations to blockbuster.com and strengthen their marketing database of customers.
