Seat of learning – Verco seating to Uni facility

June 11, 2007 - PRLog -- Designed by London architects, RMJM and project-managed by Turner & Townsend, Sheffield’s Information Commons is a six-floor structure offering over 1300 study spaces.

A £500,000 furniture specification project for the site was carried out over an eight-month period by Macclesfield-based Broadstock Office Furniture, which sourced task seating from VERCO’s Maya range.

A specialist in planning and managing large scale projects, Broadstock commissioned bespoke furnishing needs from its in-house manufacturing facility in addition to sourcing unitary elements such as high bar stools, study chairs, desking and informal tables from top market providers.

A perennial favourite, Maya’s universal appeal lies in its in its populist international style and ergonomic performance characteristics.

The range offers a choice of two back heights and three mechanisms: synchronised, permanent contact back and back rake adjustment.

Back height adjustment is provided by means of a ratchet mechanism while the armrests feature a ‘soft feel’ insert for additional comfort, which is carried through to the adjustment levers.

Broadstock’s space planning capabilities produced an uncluttered environment designed to support study and the company overall demonstrated its ability to work to meet deadlines.

Matt Cartwright, senior architect at RMJM Architects, said: “Broadstock quickly gained an understanding of our concept for the interior and used all their marketplace expertise to present a detailed solution that’s faithful to our vision.”
