| Lawrence Township HR Executive Releases UNHOOKED, a New Book on Leadership AccountabilityNew book explores how relying on HR to handle difficult conversations can weaken managerial accountability and leadership development.
Lawrence Township resident and human resources executive Adrina A. Walker explores that question in her new book, UNHOOKED: Releasing HR from HR, scheduled for release October 27, 2026. Walker, a vice president of human resources in healthcare and founder of The People Canvas, draws on her experience advising senior executives, developing leaders, and navigating complex organizational challenges. Her book examines an overlooked problem in the workplace: HR departments that become so effective at solving problems that managers begin relying on them to perform responsibilities they should own themselves. The result can be a pattern of organizational dependency. Managers avoid difficult conversations, HR absorbs responsibilities that extend beyond its intended role, and opportunities to develop capable leaders are missed. UNHOOKED challenges HR professionals to reconsider the boundaries of their work while encouraging business leaders to take greater responsibility for the people they lead. The book is not an argument for reducing HR's importance. Instead, it calls for HR to operate with greater strategic influence while helping organizations develop stronger, more accountable leadership. Walker is also developing a companion workbook, 30 Days to Becoming an Unhooked HR Leader, intended to help readers translate the book's ideas into everyday leadership practice. UNHOOKED: Releasing HR from HR will be available in paperback and Kindle editions beginning October 27, 2026. About the Author Adrina A. Her work focuses on leadership effectiveness, organizational accountability, workplace culture, and the strategic role of human resources. For book information, visit https://www.peoplecanvashr.com.
