New control unit from igus accelerates prototype development

SELANGOR, Malaysia - Feb. 9, 2026 - PRLog -- igus has introduced the new drylin DLE‑CU‑9 control unit, enabling engineers to test linear systems with stepper motors in just minutes—without complex wiring, external motor control systems or a laptop. The compact device accelerates machine commissioning, prototype development, and supports simple automation tasks across industries.

"Setting up and commissioning a machine door test typically takes two hours. That's too long when developing prototypes," says Robin Gehlen, Developer in the drylin Drive Technology Business Unit at igus. "The drylin DLE‑CU‑9 now allows this process in around two minutes."

Compact, Portable, Ready Anywhere

As small as a paperback and weighing just 645g, the control unit is designed for quick deployment on the shop floor or in the lab. Users simply connect a power supply and a stepper motor. The operating current can be set in eight steps from 1.1A to 4A, and a changeover switch allows selection between 24V and 48V for different speed requirements.

With the auto‑tuning function, the module automatically optimizes control parameters for smooth, quiet motor operation. Motor direction and speed can then be adjusted using intuitive buttons and a rotary dial—making the system accessible even for users without electrical engineering experience.

A Full Motor Control System for Simple Automation

Beyond testing, the drylin DLE‑CU‑9 serves as a stand‑alone motor controller for basic automation. Whether moving a conveyor belt or handling repetitive movements, the unit eliminates the need for a control cabinet, separate controller, or IT integration—reducing development time and overall investment costs.
