An Industrial Raspberry Pi Computer Equipped with Raspberry Pi CM5

YOKOHAMA, Japan - June 3, 2025 - PRLog -- PiLink Co., Ltd. (Yokohama, Japan; CEO Kenji Nokata) announced today that it will begin accepting orders on June 3, 2025, for its new industrial-grade Raspberry Pi model, the PL-R5. The company's initial sales target is 10,000 units in the first year.

The Latest Industrial Raspberry Pi Model with CM5

The PL-R5 is the newest model in the PL-R series of industrial Raspberry Pi solutions, designed to meet the demands of stability, reliability, and expandability in factory environments. Featuring the latest Raspberry Pi Compute Module 5 (CM5), it offers a dramatic performance boost over the previous PL-R4 (CM4-based) model.

Key features include high resistance to vibration, shock, and electrical noise, a wide operating temperature range, and a proprietary thermal design that enables effective heat dissipation without active cooling—ensuring stable operation even in harsh environments. An IP65 waterproof version is also available for outdoor use.

The new model also includes USB 3.0 and a Single Pair Ethernet (SPE) port* for modern industrial networking. Expansion options such as an AI accelerator (Hailo) can be added via the M.2 slot. The PL-R5 provides a flexible, high-performance platform for edge computing, image processing, high-speed data communication, and robotics or smart factory applications.

In addition to its enclosed versions, the PL-R5 is also available as a bare-board model for OEM and embedded system integration. This flexible option supports custom enclosures and seamless integration into existing industrial equipment.

SPE Support for Modern Industrial Networks

Single Pair Ethernet (SPE) is an Ethernet standard that enables data communication over just one twisted pair (2 wires), ideal for space- and weight-constrained environments such as robotics and vehicle networks. PL-R5 supports the 10BASE-T1S standard, allowing multi-drop connections with up to 8 nodes via T-branching or daisy-chaining, and supporting distances up to 25 meters (with termination).

The IP20 model includes three wired Ethernet ports (including SPE), while the IP65 version features a single ruggedized M8 1Gbps LAN port. Optional wireless communication is also available (WiFi, Bluetooth, LTE).

This combination makes the PL-R5 especially suitable for multi-joint robotic arms, AGVs/AMRs, remote monitoring, device coordination in challenging environments, and predictive maintenance through real-time data acquisition.
