Follow on Google News | Floex Ensemble and Collaboration with American Musicians at Concerts in Chicago and New YorkBy: floex Tomáš performed with his Floex Ensemble, a modern classical sextet that brings Dvořák's compositions to life, many of which are arranged by multi-instrumentalist Jan Šikl. For this tour, the Floex Ensemble invited local musicians from New York and Chicago to collaborate. The result was performances that combined Floex's aesthetic with the unique style of his temporary collaborators. This approach introduced an element of adaptability and cultural exchange while demonstrating that this concept is both cost-effective and creatively inspiring. The program featured music from Floex's acclaimed game soundtracks, including Machinarium and Samorost (Amanita Design) as well as Papetura (Petums). It also included selections from his studio albums and compositions originally created for dance performances. The Chicago concert was part of a celebration of the Struggle for Freedom and Democracy Day and International Students' Day November 17th organized by the Consulate General of the Czech Republic in Chicago, held in a chamber hall at the University of Chicago. In New York, the Bohemian National Hall provided an intimate and atmospheric setting that underscored the strength of Floex's music and the creativity of his collaborators. This performance was also enriched by the popular drumming robot Josef - the main character of the aforementioned computer game Machinarium. This tour demonstrated that collaborating with local musicians can deliver a rich, multi-layered experience for audiences while making international tours more feasible for ensembles with complex setups. Acknowledgements and Support The tour was made possible with the support of SoundCzech, the Arts and Theatre Institute (IDU), the Year of Czech Music, and the Czech Center New York.
