Paul Mitchell School Partners with Pathways to Opportunity for Getaway Days: A Self-Care Experience

FORT MYERS, Fla. - Nov. 5, 2024 - PRLog -- The Paul Mitchell School Fort Myers is proudly sponsoring participants from Goodwill's Pathways to Opportunity (PTO) Men's and Women's Clubs for two special Getaway Days. On November 1st, 2024, and November 8th, 2024 participants will enjoy an afternoon of pampering and learning about the importance of self-care.

Pathways to Opportunity (PTO), a mission program of Goodwill Industries of SWFL, is a life-enhancing day training initiative that helps individuals with intellectual and developmental disabilities develop essential skills, promote independence, and participate in community-based activities. PTO participants engage in a wide range of activities aimed at fostering personal growth, improving social connections, and gaining valuable life skills.

This unique partnership provides an exciting opportunity for PTO participants to experience professional salon services, from hair styling to relaxation treatments, all while gaining valuable insight into maintaining personal wellness. For many of these individuals, this will be a first-time experience in a professional salon environment, helping them build confidence and understand the significance of self-care in their everyday lives.

Simultaneously, students at Paul Mitchell School Fort Myers will benefit by learning disability etiquette hands-on. This collaboration allows students to hone their skills while also learning how to interact with individuals of all abilities, promoting greater inclusivity and understanding within the community.

"We're thrilled to partner with the Paul Mitchell School for these Getaway Days," said Jessica Tursi, Director of Disability Services & Navigation at Goodwill Industries of SWFL. "Self-care is something many of us take for granted, and for our participants, this is an opportunity not only to enjoy a day of pampering but also to learn more about how they can care for themselves. At the same time, the students at Paul Mitchell are getting invaluable experience in disability etiquette and understanding how to create a more inclusive environment."

The Getaway Days are part of an ongoing effort to provide enriching, community-based experiences for individuals with disabilities through the Pathways to Opportunity program. These events help foster independence, build self-esteem, and encourage social inclusion.
