Follow on Google News | Burnley Council appoints Cadcorp for cloud GIS and software integration servicesCadcorp awarded corporate GIS contract via UK Government G-Cloud
By: Cadcorp To fulfil its strategy of increasing sustainable development, Burnley Council recognised the need to migrate from its legacy system to a modern, cost-effective cloud GIS that could easily integrate with its new Building Control system. The council approached Cadcorp via the government G-Cloud framework with the requirement for a cloud hosted and managed desktop GIS, web mapping system and PostgreSQL spatial database. Specific requirements included integrating with the latest Ordnance Survey® National Geographical Database (OSNGD), creating and editing spatial data within a browser, streamlining constraints spatial searches, and reporting incidents on a map. Rob Dobson, Project Manager at Burnley, commented: "We needed a cloud hosted and fully supported GIS and spatial database solution. Following a G-Cloud supplier review, it became obvious that Cadcorp offered the best overall fit with our requirements." Cadcorp supports Local Authorities in transitioning from onsite systems to cloud hosted and managed environments. Cadcorp software is directly used throughout the public sector as well as being integrated into applications provided by our range of technology partners. GIS and web mapping in the cloud can bring significant benefits as it has the potential to reduce the overall cost of ownership and the administration overhead of keeping software and data up to date.
