The Forgotten Occupation is an award-winning 2023 documentary exploring the history of the first US Occupation of Haiti (1915-1934) and its ramifications on the country since. Martin was contacted by producer Will Wier, of Raton, who has been working to sponsor asylum seekers and bring them to the area under the Biden Administration's Humanitarian Parole Program for Cubans, Haitians, Nicaraguans, and Venezuelans since early 2023. Wier, frustrated with the lack of action from the program, took to educating himself about Haiti, leading to a connection with the Haitian Studies Association, who put him in contact with Martin. With the sponsorship of the local Methodist Church and Democratic Party, Wier was able to host a special screening and Q&A session at the Historic El Raton Theater in Raton with Martin in attendance on June 2, 2024. Weir contracted El Raton Media Works to document the visit and they created the documentary, "Haiti: A Story Shared in New Mexico" capturing the event as well as a one on one interviews with Martin and Wier. El Raton Media Works is a non-profit organization working in Raton to bring emerging film and media projects to the area. El Raton Media Works' Ann Theis, Elizabeth Holloway, and Christeana Piancino filmed the event, and Holloway edited the documentary "Haiti: A Story Shared in New Mexico''. In the spirit of reaching as many viewers as possible, Producer Will Wier released the film free and worldwide on July 31st on El Raton Media Works' YouTube page.
