Our Price Records: We're back!

BRIGHTON, U.K. - April 30, 2024 - PRLog -- Our Price Records, a once ubiquitous high street brand that evokes rich memories for music fans of a certain age, announces its return two decades after closing its last store.

From 1971 to 2004, Our Price left an indelible mark on British music culture, offering more than just records and tapes - it provided a social experience for millions.

At its peak, iconic slogans like "Mad About Music - See a Specialist" and "Get down to Our Price" echoed through the pages of Melody Maker, Smash Hits and NME. For teenagers, a Saturday morning visit to one of its 300 stores was a rite of passage.

However, the brand ultimately fell victim to the digital retail revolution after a failed VStores rebrand.

Now, entrepreneur Paul Harris and two DJ partners have acquired the Our Price trademarks, poised to recapture the brand's spirit for vinyl lovers old and new.

Leveraging long standing music industry relationships, Our Price relaunches on April 30th with both contemporary and vintage vinyl offerings, nostalgic merchandise and what will develop into a highly curated hi-fi equipment area.

As Woolworths also plans a UK comeback, Our Price's revival symbolises how much loved brands can be resurrected, delivering authenticity that resonates across generations of music enthusiasts.

Business detail: Our Price is a brand with heart, heritage, nostalgia and bags of cool cred and we believe that with over ten years of consistent high growth - UK vinyl sales experienced a 11.7% year-on-year rise to 5.9 million units and an estimated value of £120m at retail (of which £32m is online) the timing is perfect to reboot this much loved and much missed icon of the music industry.

Personal history behind the rebirth: In 2012, West Sussex based musician, writer and entrepreneur Paul Harris along with two close music mad DJ friends, shared the cost and risk and bought the domain ourprice.com at auction with a view to relaunching the brand. However, not owning the trademarks (schoolboy error) meant that for the next nine years they could do nothing but park the domain, during which time they received significant offers from betting and price comparison sites to sell the brand.

Then, out of the blue,  in July 2021, they were given the opportunity by the administrators of Our Price Records Limited to purchase all of the UK and EU trademarks, which after considering for a few seconds they agreed to do.

Armed now with all domains and all the trademarks, both visual and textual, Paul and his business partners (Tim Poole and Paul Winkley) set about putting relationships in place with all the UK's key vinyl, merchandise and related music product distributors and suppliers and having acquired the further development capital they required in early 2024, they finally begun the build and promotion of ourprice.com - the new home of Our Price Records.
