Action Investments Limited: China Gets Slower Nvidia Gaming Chip to Comply with US Export Rules

Nvidia Corp. (NVDA) stock fell on Friday after the semiconductor company launched a slower gaming processor in China to comply with new US limitations on technology sales to that nation.
SHEUNG WAN, Hong Kong - Jan. 3, 2024 - PRLog -- On its Chinese website, the firm announced the GeForce RTX 4090D Series graphics processing unit (GPU), claiming it "delivers a quantum leap in performance, efficiency, and [artificial intelligence] AI-driven graphics," as well as "an exceptional experience for gamers and creators."

However, the chip's performance in terms of power drain is 5.9% lower than the one revealed by Nvidia last year, and the core count has also been reduced.

President Joe Biden's administration imposed export restrictions on some sophisticated AI chips transferred to China, citing national security concerns. Earlier this month, Chief Executive Officer (CEO) Jensen Huang said that the business would produce chips that met the White House's specifications.

Nvidia has been the dominant manufacturer of processors for AI applications, as seen by its stock price, which reached an all-time high in May and then continued to rise. However, shares fell in October when the business said that new US government regulations would go into force immediately and would damage its goods.

Nvidia, "8-K."

Nonetheless, shares have already recovered, and despite Friday's more than 1% drop, they remain close to their all-time high.
