The Hutchinson Prize Provides Dozens of Scholarships to The Most Impoverished Students in Kenya's Huruma District

LOS ANGELES - Dec. 7, 2023 - PRLog -- Nairobi Kenya's Huruma District is widely recognized as one of the poorest communities in the world. Thousands of children roam the streets there daily. Many scavenge through the area's local dumps for food and anything of value. They suffer crushing gross want, poverty, and neglect. Many are orphaned. Many have little chance of access to quality education. They are growing up without hope.

The Hutchinson Prize will provide more than two dozen scholarships to these children to attend selected schools. It is a small effort to provide aid, support and most importantly hope for a small segment of the neediest of the Huruma District children. The scholarship grants will also pay for teacher salaries, textbooks, life skills training courses, computer tablets, and assorted school supplies.

"The chance for a quality education is the indispensable foundation for growth, development, and later success in life for needy children. It is their ticket out of the grinding poverty and neglect that is the grim lot for thousands of children who live in abominable conditions in some communities in urban African nations," notes Hutchinson Prize Founder Earl Ofari Hutchinson.

Hutchinson further notes that The Hutchinson Prize to Kenya's neediest children is made in celebration of his father Earl Hutchinson Sr.'s 120^th birthday anniversary December 11. "My father." says Hutchinson, "believed deeply that education was the pathway for our children's success." The Hutchinson Prize honors his memory and seeks to provide that pathway to success for Nairobi's Huruma children. The Hutchinson Prize is funded by the The Hutchinson Fund, a private charity.
