German Life Insurance Hidden Reserves Ranking 2023

The new Life Hidden Reserves rating for 2023 has just been released by RealRate.

These are the top three Life Hidden Reserves companies in Germany, measured by their financial strength, including hidden reserves.

1.    BAYERISCHE BEAMTEN LEBEN – 53%
2.    LEBENSVERSICHERUNG VON 1871 – 37%
3.    INTER LEBEN – 35%

Founded in 1858, Bayerische Beamten is a strong and profitable player in the life insurance market. Its great strength is its exceptionally high underwriting profitability compared to the market average and a very favorable position of hidden reserves on the asset side of the balance sheet. Its current assets total €3.1 billion.

Lebensversicherung von 1871 is a German life insurance company founded in 1871 and headquartered in Munich. It has current total assets of €7.3 billion.

INTER Leben was founded in 1968 and is an insurance group based in Mannheim. There are currently around 1,000 employees. Inter is represented throughout Germany with numerous offices and employees in the office and field service. Currently, it has total assets of €1.6 billion.

CEO Dr. Holger Bartel: "Hidden reserves occur if the market values of assets are higher than book values. Life insurers had a lot of them before interest rates started to increase sharply recently. This affects how companies can manage market risks. This new rating explicitly takes into account these reduced hidden reserves when assessing financial strength."
