FORT LAUDERDALE, Fla. - April 28, 2023 - PRLog -- Fictional characters can provide a valuable framework for exploring and processing personal issues in therapy. Award-winning playwright and author E. Claudette Freeman has long believed that.  As a writer and a literary coach, she knows firsthand that often the intimate struggles and conversations of the writer end up playing themselves out in the character.   When a writer takes the time to question character development and behavior in relation to what they have experienced, facing the dynamics can be eye-opening.

"Writing fiction or plays is a wonderful way to create this energy in dialogue and movement and emotional exploration where you can pour out everything in you. You can actually take some of the things that might be suggested in counseling or life coaching sessions and put them in writing. You're not hiding, you're creatively working through your stuff."

For Freeman, the concept has become a weekly podcast called The Griot's Remedy. The Griot's Remedy is part of Freeman's company, Pecan Tree Creative Solutions. The Griot's Remedy is four shows into its first six-episodes season. Joining Freeman in the discussion around short fiction, fiction excerpts, short theatrical scripts and play excerpts are Weena Wise and Renee Hart-Odrick.

Wise is a Licensed Couple and Family Therapist, Certified Professional Coach, clinical writer, and public speaker in the D.C. Metropolitan Area. She is the owner of Covenant Counseling & Consulting and Covenant Coaching Academy.  Odrick is a Board-Certified Professional Life Coach, Counselor, Author, & Meditation & Mindfulness Trainer. She is the CEO of Meditational Moment Inc. and Meditational Academy.

Odrick says, "The truth of the matter is this podcast is highlighting the red flags of life traumas through fictional stories. The concept is a gentle way to sit at the table and talk about what people are going through every day."

Through the four stories presented so far:  Her's Heart's Dance, Smooth Like Batter, Tears of A Clown and Happy Birth Baby, Freeman, Wise and Odrick have examined the experiences of fictional characters written by Freeman and provided professional insight and thoughts on identifying potential listener red flags and developing new coping strategies or perspectives. The stories in this launch season of The Griot's Remedy have explored unrequited love that left a woman unable to move forward for decades; a young wife's fear her husband is cheating, physical abuse and extreme narcissism, and facing hard life decisions in undefined relationships.
