Star Australian cricketer Steve Smith has joined the expert commentary panel of Star Sports, the official television broadcaster of IPL 2023, for the league starting March 31.

Smith will make his broadcast debut, adding his insight and expertise. He posted a video on Twitter saying, "Namaste India. I have some exciting news for you. I am joining IPL 2023. I am joining an extraordinary and passionate team in India."

The video went viral and made a lot of headlines. It was confirmed on Tuesday that he will join IPL 2023 as a specialist.

Smith, who was part of two successful World Cup campaigns with Australia, has previously played in the IPL for Delhi Capitals, Rajasthan Royals, Royal Challengers Bangalore and now defunct franchises Rising Pune Supergiants, Pune Warriors India and Kochi Tuskers Kerala.
