WEST LONG BRANCH, N.J. - Feb. 13, 2023 - PRLog -- Emerging transgender artist, JC, is proud to show his work alongside fellow members of the community in an exhibition called Lived Experiences of Transgender and Gender Nonconforming Older Adults: Narratives through Art. Co-sponsored by Monmouth University's Center for the Arts and the LGBT+ Older Adult Project, the transgender artists featured in this juried exhibit reflect on their journey (emotional, psychological, and/or physical) to live their authentic selves. They share diverse lived experiences in their own voices through art and film.

"For me, words cannot adequately express what it has been like to go through life as a transgender man in America," says JC. "It's an honor to show six mixed-media pieces in this exhibit from my ongoing project entitled Deprivation of Self, Portraits. But more importantly, I'm so impressed with Monmouth University for advancing discussions far beyond the trope of Diversity and Inclusion webpages and committees, and instead inviting historically marginalized people to represent themselves as artists."

In conjunction with this gallery exhibition, there will also be a film screening/panel discussion of the film From This Day Forward with director Sharon Shattuck and her parents Trisha and Marcia Shattuck. Following the film screening/panel discussion there will be an artist reception in the Pollak Gallery. The exhibition is on display Pollak Gallery from January 23 – March 11. About JC:
JC is a self-taught artist who challenges societal expectations and cultural representations of gender identity and expression. His work often chronicles a therapeutic journey through dissociation and the road to gather and assemble reclaimed pieces of a life lived for decades as a closeted transgender man in America.
