By: Black Diamond PR LLC
Jeremy Hickey, a Michigan native, is a 6'5, 305 lb lineman who took his talents to Eastern Michigan University. He has been trained to play all five positions on the offensive line. Upon his graduation from EMU, he took his talents to the Spring League, where he turned heads. In addition to his massive frame, his speed and agility were key signing traits for Ottawa. Jeremy has proven to be a skilled weapon on-the field and will be a valued addition to the team in the upcoming season.
"I am grateful for signing with the Ottawa REDBLACKS," said Hickey. "It gives me an opportunity to continue playing the game I love at a high level. I look forward to playing this season and showing that my talent can help the REDBLACKS win!"
The Ottawa Redblacks are a professional Canadian football team competing in the East Division of the CFL. The Redblacks began play in 2014 as the third Ottawa team in CFL history. Ottawa won the Grey Cup Championship in 2016, ending a 40 year Grey Cup championship drought for the city of Ottawa. After that, in 2018, they were East Division Champions but unfortunately were not able to win the Grey Cup. The Redblacks are led by head coach Paul LaPolice since 2019 who is looking to bring home another Grey Cup to the city of Ottawa.
In 2021, the Canadian Football League had 9 active teams; BC Lions, Edmonton Elks, Calgary Stampeders, Hamilton Tiger-Cats, Montreal Alouettes, Ottawa Redblacks, Saskatchewan Roughriders, Toronto Argonauts and Winnipeg Blue Bombers. They are divided into two divisions, East and West. Winnipeg Blue Bombers won the last Grey Cup in 2021 over the Hamilton Tiger-Cats 33-25. The CFL season kicks off in June and lasts until September.
