Composer, Playwright James V. Cockerham Carnegie Hall DebutA soul-stirring 'Fantasia on Lift Every Voice and Sing' documents the journey of African Americans
"Fantasia on Lift Every Voice and Sing' will be performed on the Carnegie Hall Stage by the Gateways Music Festival Orchestra. The 125-piece Symphony Orchestra consists of exceptionally talented musicians of African descent from major orchestras all over the world. The historic show is the culmination of a 5-day series of concerts and workshops produced by the Gateways Music Festival across Rochester, NY, and New York City at multiple venues. The Carnegie Hall finale marks the first time in the venue's 133-year history an all-black symphony orchestra will perform on its stage. A prolific composer and playwright, Cockerham produced six albums, four CDs, and four musical stage productions under his record label, CoPro Record Company, Inc., James matriculated at Livingstone College in Salisbury, North Carolina, earning a bachelor's degree in Sociology. 40 years later he earned a Masters's Certificate in Orchestration for Film and TV from Berklee College of Music in Boston. Cockerham writes musicals and all genres of music from his home in Decatur, Georgia. His sixth album and fifth CD, entitled 'Looking' premiered in February 2021 on the independent record label, The Dirty Glasses. James V.
