SANMOTION servo systems can be found in many industries like machine tools, industrial robots, medical equipment, and many others. One of the largest industries that our servo technology is also perhaps the most impactful is injection molding. Injection molding machines typically use molten plastics or metals injected under high pressures into the mold of a shape desired by a customer or manufacturer. To create the high pressures necessary the energy is commonly produced by a hydraulic pump that is powered by a motor which has to be run constantly. However, when you use a motor to power a hydraulic system, a large amount of energy is lost because it has to be converted from either chemical or electrical potential energy to kinetic energy, then to hydraulic pressure, and then back to kinetic energy. Not to mention, the motor is typically running constantly regardless of the kinetic output of the hydraulic system so this too results in significant energy waste.

The solution to this wasteful problem is a completely electric servo driven model of this machine which uses large powerful servo motors to inject the molten material into the desired mold. The European plastics industry has developed a system to classify energy efficiency of these various types of injection molding machines. They place machines in certain categories based on their mode of operation and developed certain standards to compare the energy efficiency. It's called the "Euromap 60.1", and it roughly translates to the following numbers; Hydraulic machine with single speed motor: 100% energy consumption; Hybrid machine with only metering fully electric: 75% to 80% energy consumption; Servo-driven pump machines: 65% to 70% energy consumption; Full-electric machines: 45% to 60% energy consumption.
