"The 21st century will be maritime"

President Emmanuel Macron declared "The 21st century will be maritime" at the 2019 Maritime Economy Congress, a statement backed by actions with significant support for the industry through the past years of global uncertainty. The French government is pursuing an ambitious maritime strategy based on 3 key pillars: the environment, the blue economy & maritime influence. This aim is to meet the UN's 14th Sustainable Development Goal, to conserve and sustainably use the oceans, seas and marine resources for sustainable development, by 2030.

A €650 million stimulus package has been made available to finance support and development actions to this end. Over this past 12 months, this financial support has included:
  • €50 million for fisheries and aquaculture
  • €175 million to improve the environmental sustainability of major maritime ports
  • €25 million for greening the maritime marking fleet
Thanks to the contribution of new technologies and genuine commercial dynamism, in 2020 the French maritime and port sector recorded revenue of €91.6 billion combined, which represents 14% of French GDP, 60% of which was generated from exports. The sector accounts for 36,000 jobs, or 1.1% of the country's total working population.

The French Pavilion at Oi 2022 trade show, from 15 to 17 March in London, is organised by Business France, the French governmental international trade agency, in partnership with the Pôle Mer Méditerranée and the Pôle Mer Bretagne, and La French Fab.
