Dr. Brian Anderson to Discuss Revitalizing America's Energy Legacy in Live Webinar 10/14

RICHMOND, Va. - Oct. 6, 2021 - PRLog -- Dr. Brian Anderson, Director of the National Energy Technology Laboratory (NETL) and recently named Executive Director of the Biden Administration's new Interagency Working Group on Coal & Power Plant Communities & Economic Revitalization (IWG), will join Virginia Solar Summit (VSS) Executive Producer, Host and futurist, Dan French, in a deep-diving discussion of the burgeoning renewable energy boom, the IWG's mission to help it blossom, the imminence of the nation's new energy future, and the implications for our communities live next Thursday, October 14th at 2pm ET.

One of the 1st orders of business undertaken by President Biden, the IWG was established by Executive Order 14008 Sec. 218 on Jan. 27 "to catalyze economic revitalization, create good-paying, union jobs, and support workers in energy communities (and) hard-hit coal, oil and gas, and power plant communities across the country."

Charged by the Biden Administration's bold action, Dr. Anderson hit the ground running at the IWG towards renewing the productive potential of America's once and future energy powerhouses. "As the country prepares to undergo one of the greatest energy evolutions, possibly in its entire history, I'm greatly honored that the Biden Administration recognizes what the talented staff of NETL can do to help energy communities," he said when appointed.

The work is overdue and urgent given that the Biden Administration came into office with so many communities already suffering from the precipitous decline of coal and traditional extraction industries in recent decades. American communities are estimated to be burdened by 500,000 abandoned mines, comprising many millions of idled acres. Reigniting the productive potential of these previously developed lands with renewable power would go a long way toward meeting President Biden's 2035 & 2050 goals without disturbing greenfield acres, and generate tremendous economic growth along the way.
