For select highways, including mountain passes and rural routes in high snowfall areas, the date can be extended until April 30. The requirements for winter tires are the following: at least 3.5 mm of tread depth and one of the following labels:

• The "M+S" (mud + snow) label – this is the minimum requirement and means all-season tires which can be used all year round.
• The 3-peaked mountain/snowflake symbol (sometimes both the mountain snowflake and the M+S label are used).
