Fortius Metals Raises Pre-Seed Round of $1.4M to Bring Advanced Metal 3D Printing to the Aerospace Industry
New metal alloys are stronger and lighter than existing options
LOUISVILLE, Colo. - Sept. 2, 2021 - PRLog -- Fortius Metals, Inc., an innovative metal 3D printing company, has announced today that it has closed on a pre-seed financing round after surpassing its goal by 40%. The $1.4M round, with participating from a group of super angels, will be used to launch the company and accelerate their go-to-market strategy.
Fortius Metals is a large format additive manufacturing company that specializes in new materials, helping customers develop solutions previously not possible with robotic 3D printing. Fortius Metals' patented technology will introduce high performance metal alloys that meet the demands of aerospace customers and robotic welding fabricators.
"We are looking forward to supplying customers who are already requesting our new 6061 aluminum welding wire that solves traditional "hot cracking" problems," said Jeff Lints, Fortius CEO. "We are proud to be a Colorado company along with many of our space and aircraft customers."
Existing aluminum additive welding wire is 60% weaker than traditional aircraft aluminum. Fortius welds are just as strong as traditional aircraft aluminum, which helps customers increase design performance and reduce weight.
Fortius is a spinout from Elementum 3D, headquartered in Erie, CO, which has already patented and commercialized this technology for powder bed fusion additive manufacturing. Fortius was formed in late June to develop wire-based products for use in robotic welding applications – representing new markets and new products. The company's vision is to have a real impact on re-shoring our domestic supply chain while supporting highly skilled jobs in American factories.
