PRLog -- It is a matter of paramount importance to address mental, physical, and developmental problems timely. Effective and timely therapy is important for children's school achievement, learning and communicating, making friends, mental health, and future life opportunities. Before the COVID-19 pandemic, many children did not receive sufficient speech-language pathology (SLP) services due to long waitlists in the public health system. COVID-19 restrictions worsened the situation, as many SLP services were either suspended or limited, and even children at the top of lengthy SLP waitlists often received limited services, particularly in rural areas. These limitations, challenges with remote learning at home, and intolerable wait times to receive different services mean that children are unlikely to receive enough therapy to accelerate development and minimize the impact on their emotional, physical and mental well-being.
Technological solutions may address problems with SLP services access during COVID-19 and beyond. Interactive features, feedback mechanisms, and timely support from professionals are deemed necessary for designing and implementing effective technological solutions aimed at improving children's speech. Considering those challenges, the team behind the TalkZone start-up is developing a solution for preschool and young school-aged children (5-10 years old) with a range of speech and language needs. The main areas of expertise include articulation and phonology, receptive and expressive language disorders, and stuttering. TalkZone is the most convenient and affordable way to connect parents and their children with a licensed speech therapist in Canada.
