WALPOLE, Mass. - May 18, 2021 - PRLog -- Acumentrics is pleased to introduce SmartPDU™, a new power distribution system that offers an unprecedented combination of flexibility, convenience, secure control, and system data. These benefits ensure optimal operation of shipboard electronic systems as well as the ability to accommodate upgrades and changes.

Military as well as merchant vessels are frequently upgraded to take advantage of the latest communication, navigation, data management and in some cases combat systems, all of which can drive changes to installed control electronics. Conventional PDU's typically have a fixed configuration in which the current settings, voltage requirements, etc., cannot be adjusted after delivery. In this case, new electronics require a completely new PDU, which adds hardware cost, implementation labor, as well as expensive shipboard system design time.  Furthermore, conventional PDU's are passive devices that simply route power signals and turn on / off when a given current limit is reached.

SmartPDU™ overcomes these limitations and offers new, valuable capabilities.
  • Flexibility: Each outlet can be remotely as well as independently operated, monitored, and reprogrammed. Unlike conventional PDU's, you are not locked into a design upon delivery. There is no need to purchase different PDUs for different hardware configurations on different ships. Additionally, as the ship's systems are upgraded the SmartPDU™ can be remotely reprogrammed to accommodate the new circuit load requirements.
  • Convenience: All settings and operational parameters can be monitored and controlled remotely in real time. This capability allows the status of systems powered through the SmartPDU™ to be accessed on the bridge or other ship spaces. Thus, critical information is readily available where it is most needed. In addition, customized startup and shutdown sequences can be programmed to ensure power demand is optimized.
  • Security: Remote monitoring and control is secure via embedded software. User access can be controlled to prevent unauthorized changes.
  • System Data Collection: Key factors including current draw, power, temperature, and input voltage are tracked and collected for later review. This data can help characterize electronic subsystems and potentially anticipate faults.

Acumentrics has over 25 years of power engineering experience in the most demanding applications.  You can be assured that we will carefully review your needs to provide the best solution.

Anywhere you need secure and flexible power distribution, the SmartPDU™ has you covered. Contact Acumentrics to discuss your application and learn how we can address your power needs.
