ST. PAUL, Minn. - May 4, 2021 - PRLog -- A new face is taking the helm of one of the world's leading sustainable population advocacy organizations. World Population Balance welcomes Nandita Bajaj as Executive Director, following the retirement of Dave Gardner. Nandita promises to support and leverage the power of a growing activist network, which is becoming younger, more diverse and increasingly concerned about the perils of continued population overshoot.

"I was drawn to World Population Balance because of its bold and measured approach to addressing human overpopulation, with a focus on North America. Some don't realize that North America is overpopulated and needs our attention as much as Africa, India or China," noted Nandita. "I am excited to take this leadership position at a time when there is a growing understanding in culture about our need for planetary justice, and being childfree or choosing smaller families for the planet is becoming more normalized."

A Humane Educator and a passionate advocate for planetary health, Nandita brings an intersectional lens to the overpopulation issue and its implications on human rights, animal protection, and environmental preservation. She has degrees in aerospace engineering, education and humane education, and has worked in the non-profit sector since 2009.

While World Population Balance is headquartered in Minneapolis-St. Paul, Nandita will lead the organization from Toronto, where she has lived for 23 years. She and her husband have chosen to be childfree and to live a minimalist lifestyle, in part to minimize their ecological and carbon footprints on an overpopulated planet. "There is irrefutable evidence that overpopulation and rampant overconsumption are driving climate change, resource scarcity, and biodiversity loss, yet it is a challenging issue to discuss. In order to preserve and uphold the dignity and right of all living beings to coexist in harmony with nature, we must break the taboo and address this issue boldly and compassionately," says Nandita

Retiring Executive Director Dave Gardner noted, "A growing number of global citizens – especially our young people – are becoming acutely aware of the price our planet is paying for the unrelenting expansion of the human enterprise. They are questioning every unsustainable act – whether it be reliance on fossil fuels, pursuit of GDP growth, overconsumption or overpopulation. This is a perfect time to hand the reins to someone who represents these generations. I'm on cloud nine because we've found in Nandita Bajaj a smart, articulate, young person who has valuable experience and the knowledge and passion to make a real difference in the sustainable population advocacy movement."

About World Population Balance
World Population Balance works to alert and educate that overpopulation is a root cause of resource depletion, species extinction, poverty, and climate change. The nonprofit's mission is to chart a path for human civilization that – rather than causing greater misery – enables good lives on a healthy planet. The organization advocates and supports a smaller, truly sustainable human population – through voluntary reduction in birth rates.
