IndyCar Racer Colton Herta Says Focus And Hydration, Key To Winning The Firestone Grand Prix Of St
Colton Herta uses the FluidLogic hydration system in his Andretti Autosport Dallara-Honda.
Studies have proven that hydrated athletes make fewer mistakes and have quicker reactions than those who are not properly hydrated during strenuous activity. "Heat is also a big factor as most of our races are in the summer. This is why it's essential to be hydrated during the race," says Herta. "It cuts off minor mistakes, and on a street course, it takes much more focus because there are quick turns and cement barriers all around you. Before FluidLogic in the car, I would have to take my hand off the steering wheel, fish around for the drinking tube from the in-car water bladder and shove it through my helmet to take a drink. The water would also be hot from the ambient heat and heat from the engine. Now I can press a button on the steering wheel, and water squirts into my mouth through the nozzle mounted on the in-helmet microphone. More importantly, it doesn't distract from my focus.
Herta also uses the Maglock Air magnetic air-house coupler which attaches to his helmet to deliver fresh air and fluid from the FluidLogic hydration system in his race car. "The MagLock Air system makes it much safer getting in and out of the car," says Herta. "The magnet is easy to release. Other racers have a connecting tube that you have to find the button and push to release it."
The FluidLogic "smart" hydration system is the fastest-growing hydration delivery system in motorsports. Racers are joining the #HydrationNation by using the FluidLogic system coupled with the MagLock magnetic coupler on their helmets and have earned early victories at the beginning of the 2021 season. FluidLogic components have more than five years of testing and development, enduring the most extreme racing conditions from the dust and heat of Baja to the Brickyard at Indianapolis.
