Virginia Solar Summit Set to Scale Up Ground-Mounted Solar Power on Mine Lands and Brownfields

RICHMOND, Va. - Jan. 21, 2021 - PRLog -- As the energy revolution rapidly shifts to full on renaissance, led by solar power's big scale up, Virginia is lighting the way forward with tremendous progress installing large, land-based solar energy projects. The Commonwealth's collaborative approach and encouraging policies have activated public, private and community spheres to each engage seriously in solar energy development. Across the Greater Virginia region, diverse solar stakeholders are taking on significant solar projects, even on the region's most challenged real estate, such as its former mine lands, brownfields and landfills, where it makes sense to recycle land otherwise unusable for any other purpose but solar power.

To supercharge the land-based solar renaissance bourgeoning in Greater Virginia, the 2021 Virginia Solar Summit will take place over three electrifying days (March 16, 17 and 18) in a timely virtual event built with illuminating educational programming and impactful interactive sessions and led by world-class experts in solar energy development and land reuse. Co-hosted by the Virginia Department of Environmental Quality, the Virginia Department of Mines Minerals & Energy, the West Virginia Brownfields Assistance Center and Appalachian Voices, this cooperative bi-state gathering of solar stakeholders will bring together individuals, communities, landowners, solar industry professionals, utility representatives, economic developers and governmental professionals to elevate the practice and policy enabling Greater Virginia's solar power scale up.

Already leading among states installing land-based solar power projects, the Commonwealth of Virginia looks to take additional steps towards an abundant energy future in its forthcoming legislative session. Concluding immediately prior to the Virginia Solar Summit, the legislative session seems likely to produce relevant policy to be discussed and dissected in multiple policy panels during the summit.
