A review of the collaboration challenge faced by the UK Government to fulfil its promise to level up the regions
In an article published today David Fellows identifies some of the challenges facing the Government as it seeks to engage with public and private sector organisations and the general public in an effort to deliver on his promise. He also discusses the conflicts implicit in the organisational relationships that this task requires.
Some commentators say that this is the time to recognise and reinforce what works, time to throw everything behind the pulling power of London and the South East. They caution against forsaking the golden goose. In the author's view this is a fallacy. London does not work nor do the regions. The one lacks liveability, the other lacks opportunity.
He concludes that ultimately the responsibility for a successful outcome of this immense task lies with Government. It should be entered with this clearly in mind. It is time to embrace change.
