GOLDSBORO, N.C. - Jan. 4, 2021 - PRLog -- Tasha Hunter is an Air Force veteran with a Master's degree in Public Administration and Social Work and a survivor of abuse. As a mental health advocate who specializes in the treatment of PTSD and is driven by personal experience, Hunter's mission is to spread awareness about complex traumas and provide a unique perspective on the importance of building relationships with oneself, others, and with God.

While damaging in and of itself, an act of abuse isn't the worst violation of a child's trust. All children are born with a natural resiliency. It's when those closest to the violated child refuse to hold the abuser accountable and deny that abuse ever took place that long-term ramifications become crippling. Children who carry their unresolved wounds into adulthood do not have to reconcile their brokenness with those who were complicit in their hardship growing up.

Wondering how to make sense of her own physical and sexual abuse, Hunter found solace in writing after being inspired by Dr. Maya Angelou's poem "Phenomenal Woman." This would be the first time Hunter saw a reflection of the woman she wanted to become, and thought, that will be me one day.

"I share my truth. A tough truth and left nothing out. We used to have the saying, 'It takes a village.' But that got lost. If we are going to protect children and have them grow up to become healthy adults, it takes a community of people who are not afraid to show up." – Author Tasha Hunter

In anticipation of the release of What Children Remember, Hunter's podcast, "When We Speak," will launch beginning February 2021, where she empowers women to share their voices and encouraging survivors through the art of storytelling.

What Children Remember will be available in printed and audible form beginning March 2021. To schedule an interview with Author Tasha Hunter, MSW, LCSW, book her for speaking engagements, or be a guest on "When We Speak," please send an email to tashahunterauthor@gmail.com
