Project SMART taps into Youth Smarts

ATLANTA - Aug. 21, 2020 - PRLog -- BK International Education Consultancy and STEM Compass, Inc. teamed up to host virtual STEAM camps for students in the South Fulton, Georgia area. Over the course of two weeks, elementary and middle school students were taught about sustainable ways to use science, technology, and math to solve problems in their own communities. Led by state-certified instructors, the children learned about SMART cities across the country and then developed and presented their own models for their very own SMART city. With interactive learning and small group instructional support, the group of students grasped and mastered concepts which they applied to their own designs and ideas.

Due to the Covid-19 pandemic, funding from schools has been shifted away from traditional summer learning programs towards immediate needs such as operating food banks and supplying technology to continue virtual learning. Thanks to funding from the PPG Foundation, Project SMART was provided at no cost for families in South Fulton, Georgia. This program helps to combat the achievement gaps and summer learning loss that has unfortunately worsened because of the pandemic. This is one among many ways in which STEM Compass, Inc. and BK International Education Consultancy are looking to promote educational equity by exposing students from all walks of life to STEAM education.
