CHARLOTTE, N.C. - June 26, 2020 - PRLog -- The homeowners association serves its members by making decisions in their best interest and protecting property values. The board is the backbone of the association, but member input plays an important role as well for getting rules passed and determining what changes or improvements need to be made. Kuester Management Group has released a statement to the press regarding ways the HOA can encourage more members to get involved.

"Education is a key component of increasing member participation," says Bryan Kuester, President of Kuester Management Group. "Many members don't have a solid understanding of exactly what the association or board does, how they can contribute as members, and the difference that it can make."

The board should regularly connect with members and keep them abreast of opportunities to participate on the board, on committees, with special projects, or with various events, says Kuester. Make sure they know ahead of time what the time commitment would be and some of the things they would be expected to do. Oftentimes people shy away from getting involved because they are unsure of exactly what it entails and worry it will be too great of a commitment. Be upfront and reassure them that the committee or group will be working together on goals.

If there are members who are particularly vocal at meetings, encourage them to consider running for the board. Have current or past board members share their experiences and how the member could benefit from serving. They would be more hands-on in decision making and understanding what goes into various changes that are considered.

"The HOA should also recognize volunteers for their contributions," says Kuester. "A shoutout in the newsletter or on the community website can make them feel valued and appreciated. Even a handwritten thank you note can go a long way. They know that their hard work has not gone unnoticed. An annual get-together for volunteers can be a fun way to celebrate them as well."

It takes a lot of people to keep the HOA running effectively, and everyone's contributions make a difference, whether it's a one-time project or serving on the board. Kuester can help HOAs stay connected with members, stay organized, and operate more efficiently.
