GENEVA - June 10, 2020 - PRLog -- Paraguay has approved new textile labeling requirements by incorporating MERCOSUR's Technical Regulation on Labeling of textile Products into its National Legal Order.

MERCOSUR is the South American trade bloc containing Argentina, Brazil, Paraguay, and Uruguay. Its Technical Regulation on Labelling of Textile Products – MERCOSUR/GMC/RES. No. 62/18 (Repeal of GMC Resolution No. 33/07) – contains the labeling requirements for textiles and apparel products that are produced in, or imported into, these countries.

These regulations apply to all products that contain at least 80% textile fibers and/or textile filaments by weight. Mandatory information must be indicated via labels, stamps, stickers, or similar means. These must be permanent, indelible, legible, and clearly visible.

The following information must be included:

·         Name, business name or trademark registered in the country of consumption and tax identification of a national manufacturer or importer

·         Country of origin

·         Name of textile fibers or textile filaments with their contents expressed in percentage by mass

·         Care labelling instructions

·         Size or dimensions (as applicable)

This information must be displayed in the language of the country of consumption. It may also be presented in other languages.

The approval was issued in February 2020 by Paraguay's Ministry of Industry and Commerce via Decree No. 3383. This partially repeals Decree No. 12085 of 23 April 2008.
