Dr. Gelblum talks about the components of infectivity (Ro): 1. Duration – how long are you sick and can infect other people 2. Opportunity – social distancing limits respiratory transmission 3. Transmit – masks limit nasal and oral secretions 4. Susceptibility – older and immunosuppressed adults have a higher susceptibility By wearing a mask, practicing social distancing, and vigorous hand washing diminishes the rate of infection with the older loved one you will be visiting. It has been shown that outdoor encounters are safer than indoor encounters. Socialization is extremely important for seniors.
