November Exhibit at the Geary Gallery in Darien, CT
By: Geary Gallery
Before immigrating to America from South Korea, Chin H. Shin accumulated experience and knowledge in oil painting and watercolor in his homeland. Once in the U.S., he continued to study abstract painting, and earned his Master of Art degree from Long Island University.
Shin has been concentrating on New York cityscapes for the last five years after becoming inspired by the streets of Manhattan. The culture, history, music, and movies of New York serve as a guiding force for his paintings. Technique-wise, he has been influenced by Korean calligraphy and the wild brush strokes of Expressionism.
Together, these elements culminate and influence his work. Shin's goal is to transform these city street scenes of daily life into a form of visual poetry. This can be broken down technically as tonal, color and texture; it is his hope that viewers will understand the intended message he is trying to relay through his paintings.
Shin continues to stay active in art, exhibiting his paintings at various art galleries such as the transFORM Gallery in New York City; Edwards Williams Gallery in New Jersey; Bucks County Gallery of Art in Pennsylvania;
In 2019, his work was displayed at Weather or Not: Art with Atmosphere and i.d.e.a. Museum Art Show in Arizona.
Shin's past affiliations include Oil Painters of America, American Society of Marine Artist, Portrait Society of America, and is a member of Huntington Arts Council. He was also a judge for the BoldBrush International Art Competition.
His exhibit runs November 1 - 27 and his paintings are available for acquisition. All are welcome and admission is free. To view some of his work, visit our online gallery.
