What's in a VIN and when do you need it?

NEWARK, N.J. - Oct. 31, 2019 - PRLog -- The number, known as the Vehicle Identification Number, or VIN, is a series of 17 letters and digits containing a one and only code specific to your vehicle. Automakers started using VINs in the 1950s and not until 1981 were they required and standardized.

So now you need to locate the special number..you can find your VIN in several places. The easiest way to view it on your dashboard is to stand outside the vehicle on the driver's side and look at the corner of the dashboard where it meets the windshield. If the VIN cannot be found there, open the driver's side door and look at the door post (where the door latches when it is closed).  You can also find the series of letters and numbers on your registration or your insurance card.
