NEWARK, N.J. - Oct. 31, 2019 - PRLog -- The number, known as the Vehicle Identification Number, or VIN, is a series of 17 letters and digits containing a one and only code specific to your vehicle. Automakers started using VINs in the 1950s and not until 1981 were they required and standardized.

When calling to get a quote for a new windshield, you will need to provide the year, make and model of your vehicle. After entering this basic information, the auto glass customer service representative will know whether or not your VIN is needed. Why would you need to provide the VIN? Many vehicles nowadays have safety features like lane departure warning, forward collision alert or even rain sensors, just to name a few. Certain features require cameras and wiring that are attached to the windshields.

There can be as many as 15-20 windshield choices for your car or truck depending on the combination of attributes. If you aren't sure what options your windshield glass may have, simply have your vehicle identification number (VIN) handy as that should allow the auto glass company to find the right glass to match your vehicle.

Any reputable auto glass company should take the time to compare the VIN of your vehicle to be able to price and order the correct piece of glass needed.

So now you need to locate the special number..you can find your VIN in several places. The easiest way to view it on your dashboard is to stand outside the vehicle on the driver's side and look at the corner of the dashboard where it meets the windshield. If the VIN cannot be found there, open the driver's side door and look at the door post (where the door latches when it is closed).  You can also find the series of letters and numbers on your registration or your insurance card.

Customer service representatives at American Mobile Glass NJ (https://www.autoglassnj.com/) can help locate the correct windshield to fit your specific vehicle. Call 800-924-0808 for a FREE quote!
