PHILADELPHIA - Oct. 11, 2019 - PRLog -- ChildPromise Inc. held its third annual gala for services that support the continuing education of foster youth. On October 10, the community came together at the Green Valley Country Club in Lafayette Hill, PA to attend the organization's annual gala. The event combines fundraising with stellar entertainment and honoring advocates of foster youth.

The Gala's keynote speaker was screenwriter, poet, lecturer, child advocate, public speaker and author Antwone Fisher. A New York Times national bestselling author, Fisher is best known his autobiographical book Finding Fish, his memoir of a childhood spent in the foster care system. Additionally, Fisher is well known for, Antwone Fisher, a Fox Searchlight Pictures classic feature film co-produced by Fisher and directed by Denzel Washington. Medical contributor for Fox29's Good Day Philadelphia, Dr. Mike Cirigliano, served as emcee. Born and raised in Philadelphia, Cirigliano has over sixty publications in medical literature and has been featured in Philadelphia Magazine's "Top Docs" issue every year since 1996. Duranice Pace of the Anointed Pace Sisters and recently featured on The Steve Harvey Show provided the evening's musical entertainment.

The following awards were presented for lifetime achievement and leadership in support of foster advocacy:

2019 Kenneth and Irene Campbell Lifetime Achievement Award to Christos and Cheryl Christakis for their immeasurable contribution in bettering the lives of children in the foster care system.

2019 Estelle B. Richman Leadership Award to Kutztown University and Dr. Kenneth Hawkinson, President of Kutztown University in honor of PROFS - Providing Resources and Opportunities for Future Stand Outs. A support program, in partnership with ChildPromise, Inc., provided through the university that offers the opportunity for foster students to reach their highest potential and be a positive example for others who have also gone through the system.

The Gala also supported Share the Care, an organizational program that supplies care packages and additional support to college students who have aged out of the foster care system. To date, participating colleges are:

·      Lafayette College
·      Kutztown University
·      West Chester University
·      Chestnut Hill College
·      Community College of Philadelphia

For many years, ChildPromise, Inc. has been supporting and encouraging both, current and former foster children, to pursue a higher education or a trade. With the support of donors, volunteers and community partners, ChildPromise, Inc. continues to make a difference by raising funds for higher education scholarships and credentialing opportunities for foster youth.
