The top 5 cities were Carson City, Nevada; Boulder, Colorado; Missoula, Montana; Coeur d'Alene, Idaho; and St. George, Utah. • The study considered new businesses with at least one employee. The U.S. has approximately 6 million businesses with at least one employee, and the new creation rate for businesses was roughly 2.3 new businesses per 1000 population. • The top 7 states where Americans are most likely to start businesses were all Western states: Montana, Washington, California, Idaho, Utah, Colorado, and Wyoming led the way for rate of new entrepreneurs.
