CHICAGO - Sept. 26, 2019 - PRLog -- On Saturday, Sept. 28, the Daniel Murphy Scholarship Fund will celebrate three decades of helping students in Chicago's most economically-challenged communities navigate a path to and through college, with an incredible number of these students going on to become the first person in their families to earn a degree. This is particularly important in a city where only 17 percent of students go to college and earning a degree has become essential to securing long-term employment.

Providing educational opportunities to break the cycle of poverty is one of the driving principles behind the Daniel Murphy Scholarship Fund, which this fall has 472 Murphy Scholars enrolled in more than 80 college prep partner high schools throughout the city and country, including Francis W. Parker School, Guerin College Prep, Ida Crown Jewish Academy, The Latin School and Loyola Academy. Consider these milestones during the last three decades:

·       Awarded almost 3,000 scholarships providing financial assistance and educational support to and through college

·       Serves students from 66 of the city's 77 under-resourced neighborhoods including: Austin, South Lawndale and Uptown

·       100% of Murphy Scholars graduate high school
